The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) has developed brochures for health care providers on the basics of electronic medical records. The brochures, which can be downloaded for free from the HIMSS Web site, address getting started with an EMR, selecting an EMR vendor and the legal EMR.

HIMSS focuses on providing leadership for the optimal use of health care information technology and management systems for health care improvement. The society is based in Chicago.
