IOM Issues Report on Cancer and Genetics

09/13/2007

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) recently issued a report that focuses on cancer-related genetic testing and counseling. The report is based on a workshop hosted by the IOM's National Cancer Policy Forum.

Genetic testing and counseling are becoming more complex as patients and their families learn the risks and benefits of various options in cancer care. Yet few organized expert programs exist. The workshop discussed scientific, as well as workforce and reimbursement issues surround genetic testing and counseling.

A full copy of the report is available online at the National Academies Press Web site.
