CARE Bill Passes Crucial Senate Committee
03/13/2008
The Senate version of the CARE Bill (Consistency, Accuracy, Responsibility and Excellency in Medical Imaging & Radiation Therapy) passed the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, or HELP, on Thursday, March 13, 2008.
The American Society of Radiologic Technologists recently completed its R.T. in D.C. event, in which radiologic technologists meet with senators and congressional representatives on Capitol Hill. According to ASRT, members of the Society for Nuclear Medicine's technologist section and representatives of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, or ASTRO, were in Washington, D.C., at the same time.
The ASRT reports that S. 1042 now has 24 cosponsors, and a House version of the CARE Bill, HR 583, has 132 cosponsors. The Senate Finance Committee now will be charged with finding financial incentives for enforcement of new medical imaging and radiation therapy personnel standards.
