SROA Members Encouraged to Call Senators in Support of CARE Bill
August 9, 2010
The SROA Advocacy Committee is encouraging members to call in support of the ASRT Consistency, Accuracy, Responsibility and Excellence (CARE) in Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy bill that was reintroduced in the U.S. Senate this month.
Senators Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., and Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, introduced S. 3737, the CARE bill into the U.S. Senate on Aug. 7, 2010, with Sens. Richard Burr, R-N.C., and Al Franken, D-Minn., as cosponsors. The legislation seeks minimum educational and certification standards as part of the Medicare program for all personnel in medical imaging and radiation therapy, according to an American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) press release.
In Congress, the CARE bill (H.R. 3652) currently has 117 bipartisan cosponsors after being introduced in September 2009 by Rep. John Barrow, D-Ga.
SROA is among a coalition of organizations that support the legislation.
“Please contact your congressional members and urge them to support the CARE bill,” says Alan Burns, chairman of the SROA Advocacy Committee.
Burns provided the following links to aid SROA members in contacting their Representatives and Senators, http://capwiz.com/asrt/home/, and for more information on the bill and the members of Congress who have supported the bill in the past, www.asrt.org/content/GovernmentRelations/CAREBill/federal_minimum_standards.aspx.
